A. ACADEMIC POSTS

1. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (3 POSTS)
1.1 Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

POST A
Applicants must have at least a Masters Degree in Manufacturing Engineering/Production/Industrial/Material Technology and should be able to teach Material Technology/Material Science.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach students in the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Programme and to contribute to the Master of Engineering Programme in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management. He/She should be competent to design and develop experiments and also lead research in the area up to postgraduate level.

POST B
Applicants must have a Masters Degree in Manufacturing Systems/Production and be able to teach Manufacturing Systems/Operations Research in the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing. In addition, the incumbent should be able to contribute to the Master of Engineering Programme in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management. He/She must also design and develop experiments and be able to lead research in the area up to postgraduate level.

POST C
Applicants must have a Masters Degree in Manufacturing Systems/Production and be able to teach Concurrent Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Design in the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, while also contributing to the Master of Engineering Programme in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management. He/She must also design and develop experiments and lead research in the area up to postgraduate level.

2. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (1 POST)
2.1 Department of Chemical Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants must have at least a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering and with a strong background in Core Chemical/Process Engineering. The Chemical Engineering Department offers a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree in Chemical Engineering which has a strong engineering core combined with a unique minerals processing emphasis. Applicants must have teaching and research strengths in key areas such as process simulation and control, process dynamics and control, modern computational techniques in chemical engineering thermodynamics and computer aided process design.

3. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (4 POSTS)
3.1 Applied Mathematics-Faculty of Applied Sciences

POST A
Applicants must have at least a Master of Science Degree in Pure Mathematics/Mathematics. The successful candidates will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses on the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Applied Mathematics programme and to contribute to the teaching of the Master of Science Degree in Applied Mathematical Modelling.  Proven research interest in Mathematics is a distinct advantage.

POST B
Applicants must have at least a Master of Science Degree in Statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses on the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Operations Research and Statistics programme and to contribute to the teaching of the Master of Science Degree in Operations Research programme.  Candidates with a proven research interest in Statistics will be at an
advantage.

POST C
Applicants must have at least a Master of Science Degree in Financial Mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses related to Financial Mathematics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Proven research interest in Financial Mathematics is a distinct advantage.

4. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (1 POST)
4.1 Department of Applied Chemistry-Faculty of Applied Sciences

Applicants must be in possession of a suitable post-graduate degree preferably a PhD, be able to teach advanced courses in Transport Phenomena, Unit Operations, Reactor Technology and Plant Design, including Computer Aided Design. In addition, the successful applicant should be able to supervise final year projects and Industrial Attachment visits. Applicants with Chemical Engineering background will have an
added advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop research within his/her area of specialization. In addition, applicants will be expected to develop, update and review courses at undergraduate and possibly post-graduate level in order to keep up with changes in technology.

5. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (5 POSTS)
5.1 Environmental Science and Health-Faculty of Applied Sciences

POST A - PUBLIC HEALTH SPECIALIST (1 POST)
Applicants must have a relevant Master of Science or Doctorate(PhD) Degree and should be able to teach in the following areas of specialization:- Urban Development and Housing, Pest Management and Disease Control, Environmental Port Health, and Management of Solid and Hazardous Waste.

POST B - INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST (1 POST)
The ideal applicant should have a relevant Master of Science or Doctorate (PhD) Degree that will allow him/her to teach in the following areas of specialization: - Occupational Health and Safety, Sanitation and Waste Water Management, Industrial Hygiene, and any other relief course depending on the staffing situation in the department.

POST C – FOOD MICROBIOLOGIST/TECHNOLOGIST (1 POST)
Applicants must have a relevant Master of Science or Doctorate (PhD) Degree that will allow him/her to teach in the following areas of specialization:- Food Hygiene, Meat Hygiene, and Parasitology. Experience with statistical programmes and biometrics will be an added advantage.

POST D – GIS AND REMOTE SENSING SPECIALIST (1 POST)
Applicants must have a relevant Master of Science or Doctorate (PhD) Degree that will allow him/her to teach in the following areas of specialization:- Animal Resources of Africa, Environmental Information Systems, Forests and Rangeland Management, Ecological Techniques and Management of Arid and Semi Arid Lands.


POST E – ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMIST/TOXICOLOGIST (1 POST)
Applicants must have a relevant Master of Science or Doctorate (PhD) Degree that will allow him/her to teach in the following areas of specialization:- Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Health, Pesticides and Pest Control.

6. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP (1 POST)
6.1 Division of Basic Medical Sciences- Faculty of Medicine

Applicants should hold a minimum qualification of a relevant Master’s Degree and/or specialist qualification such as M.Med., FCPath, FRCP, FRCS, FFR, FCR, FCS, FRCOG or similar.  Teaching and research experience will be an added advantage. Applicants will be drawn from any of the following academic disciplines: - Anatomy, Physiology, Haematology, Pathology, Histology and Molecular Diagnostics.

7. LECTURESHIP/SENIOR LECTURESHIP/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP/PROFESSORSHIP
7.1 Division of Clinical Practical Practice and Patient Care

Applicants must have a relevant Master’s Degree and/or specialist qualification such as M. Med, FRCS, FFR, FCS (ECSA), MRCP, FRCOG or similar. Teaching and research experience will be an added advantage.  Applicants will be drawn from any of the following academic disciplines:- Surgery and Surgical Specialities, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Clinical Pharmacology, Anaesthetics, Psychiatry, Radiology and Oncology.

8. ENGINEERING INSTRUCTOR (3 POSTS)
8.1 Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

POST A
Applicants must have a first Degree in Industrial/Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering/Technical Education plus a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, a minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience in a relevant field or industry is required.
The successful applicant will be expected to lead students through experimental work, demonstrate the operations of various types of equipment and plant, and to guide them through hands-on operation of the plant and equipment with particular regard to safety.  In addition, s/he will be expected to also assist academic staff in their research activities.

POST B
Applicants must have a first Degree in Metallurgy/Material Science/Mechanical Engineering to cover Material Science. In addition, applicants are required to have a minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience in a relevant field in industry.

The successful applicant will be expected to lead students through experimental work, demonstrate the operations of various types of equipment and plant, and to guide them through hands-on operation of the plant and equipment with particular regard to safety.  In addition, s/he will be expected to also assist academic staff in their research activities.

POST C
Applicants must have a first Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, plus a National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, and a minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience in a relevant field in industry to help in courses such as Instrumentation and Control.

The successful applicant will be expected to lead students through experimental work, demonstrate the operations of various types of equipment and plant, and to guide them through hands-on operation of the plant and equipment with particular regard to safety.  In addition, he/she will be expected to also assist academic staff in their research activities.

9. STAFF DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP (2 POSTS)
9.1 Department of Publishing Studies- Faculty of Communication and Information Science
Applicants must have at least a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Publishing with at least a 2.1 Degree Classification or better.  The duties of the incumbents will involve assisting with teaching undergraduate tutorial classes in Publishing Theory and Practice as well as research.  The successful candidates would be expected to register for a higher degree which they must complete within two years of
appointment.

10. TEACHING ASSISTANT (1 POST)
10.1 Department of Textile Technology-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants must have an Honours Degree in Textile Technology with a 2.1 degree classification or better. Successful candidates will be expected to assist with conduct of Tutorials and practical classes in Textile Technology.  The successful candidates will be expected to register for a higher Degree Programme in the Department of Textile Technology.  Preference shall be given to candidates who are strong in
Chemistry related subjects with 2.1 passes or better.

11. TEACHING ASSISTANT (2 POSTS)
11.1 Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants should be in possession of at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing/Production Engineering or Materials Science and Technology, with at least a 2.1 Degree classification; or a 2.2 plus two years relevant post-qualification experience.

The successful applicants will be expected to assist academic staff with teaching and research in the Department’s four Divisions which are: - Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Manufacturing Process Engineering, Manufacturing Systems, and Engineering Management. The applicants will be expected to consider registration for the Masters Degree programme, which is run by the Department.

12. TEACHING ASSISTANT (1 POST)
12. 1 Department of Publishing Studies- Faculty of Communication and Information Science

Applicants must have at least a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Publishing with at least a 2.1 degree classification or better.  The duties of the incumbent will involve assisting with teaching undergraduate tutorial classes in Publishing Theory and Practice as well as research.  The successful candidate will be expected to register for a higher degree specifically a Master of Philosophy Degree that they must complete within two years of appointment to the post.

13. TEACHING ASSISTANT (1 POST)
13. 1 Department of Library and Information Science- Faculty of Communication and Information Science

Applicants should hold a good Honours degree (Upper Second Class) in Library and Information Science or closely related discipline, enabling them to assist in research, teaching, projects and marking in areas specific to Library and Information Science; Records Management; Archival Science; and Information and Communication Technology.  Candidates with a strong background in Social Research Methods will have an
added advantage. The successful applicant will be expected to register for a Masters Degree programme in one of the available programmes in the Department.

14. TEACHING ASSISTANT (2 POSTS)
14.1 Department of Computer Science-Faculty of Applied Sciences

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Computer Science with an Upper Second (2.1) Degree class or better. Successful candidates will be expected to take undergraduate practical and tutorial classes in Computer Science as assigned by the Chairman of the department.  They will be expected to register for a higher Degree in one of the  programmes available in the department.




B. ADMINISTRATIVE  POSTS 

15. ASSISTANT REGISTRAR/SENIOR ASSISTANT REGISTRAR (1 POST)
15. 1 Registrar’s Department

Applicants must normally hold a relevant Masters Degree or equivalent and at least 2 years relevant post-qualification experience, or have an appropriate Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years relevant post-qualification experience.  They must display knowledge of Administration concepts and have good organizational skills; be able to plan and co-ordinate Faculty activities and be computer literate.  Administrative experience in an educational environment, knowledge of University systems of operation and computer literacy will be added advantages.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in any Section of the University Administration, but the initial appointment will be to one of the Faculties.

C. TECHNICAL POSTS

16. MAINTENANCE OFFICER (1 POSTS)
16.1 Physical Planning, Works and Estates

Applicants must be holders of a minimum qualification of a Degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a maintenance environment, or related field. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of, and ability to use hand and welding tools. Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, carpentry, transport and ground systems is essential. The successful candidate will
be expected to possess exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills to enable him/her to be able to function effectively and efficiently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with an aptitude for computer systems and technologies will be desirable. In addition, applicants are required to have knowledge of ISO 14001 Environment Management Systems.  A driver’s licence is a must.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of building maintenance, repairs and improvements. He/she will be expected to delegate maintenance tasks to maintenance and warehouse staff, ensuring that such tasks are performed timeously in a pro-active, safe and environmentally conscious manner. Furthermore, the incumbent will work closely with university personnel in organizing and maintaining preventative maintenance requirements; scheduling and material purchases. Other duties in the overall supervision of maintenance production and plant assets will include assessing maintenance staff workloads and making appropriate recommendations; actively participating in planning, organizing and executing tasks and projects; training staff on processes, procedures and technical tasks.

17. CHIEF TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
17.1 Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants should have a Masters Degree in Manufacturing/Production/Mechanical Engineering with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.  At least 5 years of post-bachelor’s industrial experience is required, two of which must be in a supervisory role.  The successful applicant will be expected to supervise staff in the workshop in addition to the technician’s duties.

18. CHIEF TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
18.1 Department of Computer Science-Faculty of Applied Sciences

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in either Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Software Engineering or any equivalent Information Technology Degree from a recognized University or Institution, and at least 5(five) years post-qualification experience. A Postgraduate Degree in the relevant field would be a definite advantage.  Candidates must have experience in computer software,
networking and hardware.  The duties of the incumbent will include management of computer laboratories and laboratory equipment, supervision of junior staff, liaison with equipment suppliers and provision of user support within the department.

19. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS/SENIOR MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS (2 POSTS)
19.1 Division of Basic Medical Sciences- Faculty of Medicine

Applicants must possess a Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology/Sciences or Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent, with industrial attachment or equivalent. For candidates to be appointed to the senior Technologist Grade, they should have 3 years post-qualification experience, in addition to the outlined Bachelor’s qualification.

20. TECHNICIAN/ SENIOR TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
20.1 Department of Applied Mathematics-Faculty of Applied Sciences

Applicants must posses a minimum qualification of a Higher National Diploma, or a Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or Electronics. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant post-qualification experience. For candidates to be appointed to the senior Technician Grade, they should have 3 years post-qualification experience, in addition to the outlined Degree qualification.

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Chairman of the Department and will be expected to run and maintain the Departmental Computer laboratory. He/she should have a thorough working knowledge of modems, routers and switches. The duties will include trouble shooting, cabling (CAT5), configuration, repair and maintenance of all departmental computer related hardware or software problems, in addition to overall technical supervision of laboratory sessions. Enforcement of security and safety measures in the computer laboratory, assisting both undergraduate and post-graduate students in carrying out their research, user training and support, and checking consumable stocks and advising on re-ordering levels will be some of the duties, as well as doing any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or
senior technical staff.

21. TECHNICIAN/SENIOR TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
21.1 Department of Textile Technology-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants must be holders of either a Higher National Diploma or equivalent, or a Degree in Textile Technology/Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering with experience in maintenance, repair and setting of Textile manufacturing equipment.  Experience in Textile laboratory/workshop administration, repair and calibration of laboratory equipment will be an added advantage.  For a candidate to be appointed to the senior Technician’s Grade, one has to have 3 years post qualification experience, as well as the ability to supervise and train junior staff.


22. TECHNICIAN (2 POSTS)
22.1 Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants must be in possession of a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical or Diesel Plant Engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and service departmental equipment for thermal, fluid and compressed air systems for teaching and research activities. He/she will also be required to actively participate in the design and development of experimental test rigs, and to assist students in
carrying out experiments and projects. In addition the incumbent will be expected to assist academic staff with their research projects. He/she must demonstrate commitment to self-advancement within the academic and research environment of the University.

23. TECHNICIAN (2 POSTS)
23.1 Department of Journalism and Media Studies-Faculty of Communication and Information Science

POST A
Applicants must have at least a Higher National Diploma in Computing or its equivalent.  Applicants who have experience in the use of Journalism related software such as Quark X-press, Adobe Audition, Final Cut and others will have an added advantage.

POST B
Applicants must have at least a Higher National Diploma in Computing or its equivalent and at least one year post-qualification experience.  Applicants with working experience in a broadcast environment as a producer or above will have an added advantage.  Successful applicants will be expected to assist students with their film and broadcast projects.

24. SOFTWARE SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
24.1 Information and Communication Technology Services

Applicants must possess a Higher National Diploma and 3 years post-qualification experience, or a Degree in Information/Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent and 1 year post-qualification experience. Software maintenance experience as well as possession of intimate knowledge of Microsoft Office Software applications, Microsoft Access programming, Apache and Microsoft Windows operating systems is required. Knowledge of Auto card, MySql, WinQS and Linux will be an added advantage. The incumbent will report to the Director of Information and Communication Technology Services and will be responsible for assisting in the Information and Communication Technology Services Department Help desk, including the hardware and software technical support of computers running on the University Local Area Network.
