Vacancy: Essential Drugs Specialist


A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Health & Nutrition Unit for an individual who is accountable for formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Vital and essential Medicines, HIV/AIDS commodities and other health related commodity project(s) to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project management, delivery and accomplishment of project goals and objectives.

Key result areas for this post include
- Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and collaboration to the Health Commodities Situation Analysis and its periodic update made for effective project planning, development and management
- Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key Health supply sectoral programme documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and knowledge/information exchange with MoHCW, NatPharm and other health supply related partners
- Quality of rights-based Health Supply projects /programmes effectively promoted, and coherence, synergy and value added to project management process through results-based management
- Health supply sectoral work plans and activities formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined project strategies and approaches
- Project delivery, evaluation and reporting carried out efficiently, rigorously and transparently in compliance with the established guidelines and procedures
- UNICEF’s global goals effectively promoted through availability, delivery, management and technical support for health commodities in the Health Sector
- Proper and timely UNICEF and Government accountability ensured regarding supply and non-supply assistance as well as disbursement of programme funds for the Health sector
- Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration with Government (MoHCW/AIDS&TB Unit/NatPharm), relevant UN Agencies and other supply chain management partners

Qualifications and Competencies
- Initiative, passion and commitment to UNICEF’s mission and professional values
- Advanced university degree in one or more of the disciplines: Pharmacy, Public Health, Business or public Health Administration, Medicine, Social Sciences or a field relevant to international development assistance in Health Supply sector
- Five years of relevant professional work experience. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization
- Field work experience and background/familiarity with Development and Emergency essential
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
