Vacancy: Technical Advisor - Gender


CARE Zimbabwe seeks a Technical Advisor, Gender for an anticipated program in Mutare with an objective to sustainably increase food security among vulnerable populations in Zimbabwe. The program will focus on:

1) Increasing households and micro-enterprise productivity and income through market-oriented approaches;
2) Improving nutrition among women of reproductive age, pregnant and lactating women, and children under five; and
3) Increasing household resilience to shocks.

The program must address both the root causes of chronic food insecurity as well as chronic malnutrition, with an integrated nutrition approach.

Job Summary
The Technical Advisor, Gender will provide leadership, direction, and coordination to integrate gender, ensuring that women, men, boys and girls will have their different needs analyzed and addressed with respect to the improvement of food security and nutrition in households in dry, arid regions of Zimbabwe. The incumbent will undertake gender analysis and develop tools to enhance and expand on existing gender analysis to better understand the context and dynamics at play related to gender, food security and nutrition in Zimbabwe. In addition, the Technical Advisor, Gender will lead development and coordination of trainings for project staff, government officials, traditional leadership and community actors to raise awareness and provide tools for dialogue and communication and action to improve gender relations.

Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in International Development/Women’s Studies/Agricultural or related field or Bachelors and additional 5 years field experience
- Background/qualifications in gender transformative programming & gender analysis
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in food security and/or gender programming
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams and effectively communicate new or sensitive topics
- Knowledge and experience with participatory planning methodologies that promote learning and social change
- Excellent interpersonal and team work skills
- Superior written and oral skills in English are essential
