Vacancy: Executive Director – Island Hospice


"Your high level admin and leadership skill is required"

As part of our CSR Programme, the Valcol Group wishes to assist in the search and selection of applicants to be considered for the
role of Executive Director for Island Hospice.

The hospice is a non profit making organisation and offers support and counselling services to the public. It is supported by many
volunteers who give up their free time on a daily basis. Our client seeks a high level administrator to run the association and
develop new funding initiatives through private and corporate support and placement to meet operational expenses.

You must have worked in a high level administrative role with strong leadership skills across operations. Previous experience from
an NGO or medical services sector or alike would be a distinct advantage - however strong consideration would be given to a
person keen on giving back to the community with previous leadership skills. You could be at the stage in your career whereby a
need and call to serve your community is a main priority in life. A visionary person is required to build the hospice and services. You
would be supported by a dedicated permanent and volunteer work force.

Personal Attributes and Primary Function
The position functions are diverse and require a highly competent individual with organisational skills at the highest level including
knowledge of strategic management, human resource management, administration and financial management. The individual must
have the ability to think on his/her feet. The applicant must be a decisive individual who can take measured risks where necessary
and have the ability to act with a sense of urgency. You must have the ability think analytically and be results orientated.
You will liaise closely with and report to the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.

Key performance areas include :
Strategic Management – includes convening annual strategic planning meetings encompassing all aspects of budgeting,
evaluation mechanisms and implementation of said budgets.

Liaison with Board of Directors - on a governance level, and with staff at operational levels. Submission of quarterly reports to
the Board on operational activities, budgets. Strategic planning implementation is required.

Human Resource Management – overall responsibility for the effective and professional management of staff. Task involves
recruiting and supervision and performance appraisals, disciplinary procedures, and training requirements.

Administration and Financial Management – Liaise with the CFO and ensure annual budgets are drawn up. Liaise with portfolio
and project managers and monitor systems and ensure that reports are prepared for Board meetings.

Management of Operations – Monitor staff regarding routine documentation and reporting requirements according to existing
guidelines including annual report and newsletters. Monitor staff regarding maintenance of databases.

Networking – ensure and assist in beneficial relationships between HIS and member organisations.

Fundraising – Ensure that effective organisational fundraising occurs and assist project managers with development of funding
proposals.

Other Functions – includes change management, international relations, personal development and organisational ethos.
Education

The incumbent must possess a Masters in Business Administration, Social Sciences or Development Studies.

Experience
A minimum of 5 years in senior management is required and a minimum of 3 years active involvement in the NPO sector. Palliative
care experience in a hospice environment is preferable, but not compulsory.

General
The incumbent must be willing to travel and be willing to work flexible hours.

Vacancy: Trust Coordinator

The KAITE-Trust is a not for profit organisation whose activities serve small-scale farmers
and wild collectors. Main activities are: training in organic farming and sustainable wild
collection; input provision; mobile payment methods; certification; ABS, market linkage
through partners.

The Trust Coordinator, reporting to the Board, is responsible for leading effective
programming in KAITE-Trust Zimbabwe, will ensure that the programme is of excellent
technical quality, attracts significant donor funding and contributes significantly to social
and economic development of small scale farmers and wild collectors in Zimbabwe. The
post holder shall also be in charge of implementing all activities of the Trust and shall
contribute to the development of the organisation’s strategic direction and to its policy
formulation.

Key accountabilities
- Lead the development of the programmatic aspect of the strategic plan and the
strategic and conceptual plan for the organization
- Operations, Strategy and Finance
- Provides executive oversight of all Trust Activities, manages day to day operations and
assures a smooth and functioning and efficient Trust
- Ensures program quality and organisational stability through development and
implementation of standards and controls, systems procedures, operational research and
regular monitoring and evaluation
- Prepares and manages operating budgets
- Ensures that the KAITE-Trust Coordinator position is fully financed by new projects
- Trust Development
- Participates actively in identifying, cultivating and soliciting donor prospects
- Establishes relationship of KAITE-Trust with the donor community through individual
meetings and presentations at the monthly meetings of the agricultural, IDP, and other
groupings
- Ensures compliance with local and international law
- Helps create marketing and publicity tools for Trust (website, power point etc)
- Project Management
- Ensures good relationships with partners through timely reporting and good
communication with donors
- Establishes systems and procedures for financial and admin reporting
- Sets project scorecards for each project

Minimum requirements
- Master’s degree in Development Studies or Social Sciences or relevant thematic
discipline
- At least 10 years NGO experience in programme development and implementation at a
full time in-country context including at least 6 years at a senior management level
- Superior thematic strategy, project proposal, reporting and technical paper writing skills
- A superior track record of delivery of multi-year, multi-site programmes with significant
budgets
- Conversant with current thematic issues and debates in Zimbabwe.

Vacancy : Project Officer

- You will assist and help capacity build communities, partner organisations and local
institutions to manage a full range of public health promotion activities. Must have good
understanding of the key urban food security issues, preferably food voucher distributions
and gardening activities.

- Candidates will have relevant academic qualifications in any discipline relating to public
and/or environmental health, social work and community development. Good knowledge of
and significant experience in health promotion and management, social work and
community development, particularly relating to poor rural and urban communities, with at
least 2 years’ practical experience in public health promotion is also required.

Qualifications and attributes
- First degree in the social sciences is a must
- Master’s Degree in Social sciences is a must

Vacancy: Policy Research Assistant (PRA)

The African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) a regional organization working on debt and development issues in Africa, seeks to recruit forward minded individuals to the following position:

Policy Research Assistant 

The PRA will carry out research and contribute to policy intelligence and coordination in AFRODAD.

Description of Tasks and Operations
- Conducting desk and field research
- Producing policy reports and briefs
- Facilitating Advocacy processes, including organising events, conferences, meetings and seminars
- Carrying out General and Corporate responsibilities including responding to enquiries from other stakeholders concerning their portfolio
- In coordination with the Policy Officers, the PRA will assist in provision of technical support to partners in Zimbabwe and the region.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with strong research abilities
- At least two years experience working on debt, aid and/or economic governance issues
- Superior computer and data analysis skills
- High analytical and reasoning skills
- Ability to conduct with competence research in both qualitative and quantitative methods
- Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
- Excellent written English skills and experience with drafting documents, such as memos, letters, project plans and reports
- Flexibility and ability to work in fast-paced environment, with frequent change
- Additional language skills (preferably French or Portuguese) is an added advantage.
