Vacancy: IRS Technical Officer


Abt Associates Inc, currently implements USAID/PMI-funded Africa Indoor Residual Spraying (AIRS) Project, which seeks to reduce the burden of malaria in 14 African countries through cost-effective implementation of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS).
The Africa IRS Project is currently seeking qualified candidates for the project’s operations in Zimbabwe. Brief descriptions and qualification requirements for open positions are listed below. All positions are based in Harare.

 IRS Technical Officer
Provide technical operations assistance to the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) before, during and after the IRS campaign. The successful candidate may be seconded directly to the NMCP from July 2013 to February 2014, and assist NMCP in IRS campaign planning, implementation, training, IRS campaign supervision, monitoring and evaluation, and documentation and report writing. The Technical Officer, will also work to assure technical and operations improvements as needed for the 2014 IRS campaign. After February 2014, this staff member will work directly with AIRS Zimbabwe staff, and help the project staff continue its technical support to the NMCP.

Qualification requirements
- A Master’s or PHD in Environmental Health, Public Health or Entomology, or a medical degree
- The successful candidate should have extensive experience in IRS, particularly within Zimbabwe
- Experience with the NMCP and MOHCW are highly desirable
- Candidates should be able to write and present technical reports on malaria control issues

Vacancy: Project Director – Zimbabwe: Freedom House

Position Summary
The Project Director will lead Freedom House programs to advance democracy and human rights in countries in southern Africa. She/he will be responsible for program management including strategic design and implementation, financial management, staff supervision, office management, communications, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Furthermore, the Project Director will be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with civil society and human rights organizations in the region. This position is based in Harare, Zimbabwe or Johannesburg, South Africa and reports to the Director for Africa programs based in Washington, DC.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, law, or related field
- Master’s degree strongly preferred
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience with democracy and human rights programs
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
- Strong knowledge of human rights principles and mechanisms, and understanding of democracy promotion
- Experience with managing and implementing multi-component, donor-funded programs
- Experience providing technical assistance to local organizations in Africa
- Experience in challenging environments and flexibility to apply lessons learned from other contexts
- Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations, and other donor approaches to civil society development
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize communities and encourage the inclusion of marginalized groups
- Strong ability to apply interpersonal skills, and successfully work in a diverse and multicultural environment and with stakeholders in the region
- Strong track record in project and staff management Ability to build and strengthen civil society organizations
- Ability to consistently apply good judgment in problem solving and decision making
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times

Some Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programs to support civil society and human rights in challenging environments
- Monitor and evaluate processes, and write program reports to ensure completion of program objectives
- Assume responsibility for the daily operations of the office, which includes but is not limited to: financial management, management of sub-grants, general office administration, monitoring of reports and program evaluation of all programs for which the office is responsible
- Network and liaise with consultants, members of governments, civil society organizations, international and regional bodies, and private funders
- Travel as needed in country and abroad to represent Freedom House before counterparts and the donor community
- Other related duties as assigned

- A minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience of working in a senior management position
- Previous experience in the NGO/development Sector and preferably with education or children’s programming
- Demonstrable experience at fundraising and networking with key development stakeholders, international donors and partners
- Strong written and oral communication and management skills
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Proficiency in MS office tools, Internet and advanced computer literacy
- Clean Class 4 driver’s license
- Passion for children, their well being and rights

Vacancy: Accounting Assistant


The Zimbabwe Land O’ Lakes, IDD currently implementing a USAID funded Zimbabwe Livestock and Dairy project seeks an Accounting Assistant.

Key Responsibilities include:

Assist the Project Accountant/Finance Manager with the following:
- Preparing vouchers, ensuring all relevant supporting documents are attached and allocating costs to the relevant budget lines
- Prepare the relevant bank documents necessary for processing payments
- Making entries in Costpoint
- Preparing salaries schedules and effecting the necessary statutory obligations including preparing and submitting PAYE, NSSA and Medical Aid returns
- Preparing and submitting VAT refunds returns
- Preparing monthly reconciliations for the project’s Balance Sheet items
- Preparing of monthly Accounting Packs for submission to HQ
- Track, monitor and prepare monthly reports on staff field advances
- Supervise and assist the Administrator in timeously preparing the following reports: 1.Fixed Assets Register, 2. Inventory Register, 3.Employees’ leave register, 4. Motor Vehicles Usage Reports

Qualifications
- This is an ideal position for someone with at-least two years working experience and holder of an Accountancy Diploma from a recognized body (SAAA, HEXCO, ACIS, CIMA, etc)
- Good time management and willingness to travel as required
- A good communicator with the ability to work in a team
- Can take initiative in resolving challenges
- Prior administrative and accounting responsibilities for a US government or large non-governmental organization a plus
- Strong computer skills in MS Excel, Word or Outlook preferred.
