Vacancy: Electrician

Background:
UNICEF Country Office hosts over 150 staff members who use various office equipment powered by electricity. The constant power outages interrupt the smooth flow and requires maintained and serviced electricity distribution channels and power back up systems. In additon, the expansion of offices requires special projects to install power to new structures. It is against this background that the services of a General Hand-Electrician are required.

Objective(s) of the consultancy:
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Officer, assists in ensuring efficient running an maintenance of electrical system within the UNICEF complex.

Specifically the consultant will be responsible for:
The consultancy will be working in the Administration Unit to implement activities and the following ouputs:

  • Undertakes scheduling and completion of UNICEF premises Preventative Maintanance Program.
  • Recommends and attends to electrical requests from HelpDesk to ensure smooth operation of the office.
  • Ensures generators are serviced on schedule, logbooks maintained and fuel utilized recorded.
  • Assists in coming up with specifications and obtaining quotations to spares and materials required for general and specific electrical repairs, maintenance and projects
  • Works with casuals who may be hired to assist in specific work
  • Perfomes other general hand assigned duties and responsibilities


Requirements:
The consultancy requirements are as follows:

  • Class one(1) journeyman electrician
  • Minimum five years of professional work experience at national level in planning and executing electrical installation, maintanance and repairs work.
  • Professional work experience in a technical expert in electricical installations, maintanance, services and repairs]
  • Ability to carry out other non-electrical repair work.

Vacancy : ICT Officer

UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s rights organization, has an opening for a passionate

An opportunity has arisen for an ICT Officer to provide technical, operational and procedural
support and end-user services within UNICEF Harare. The national officer will be
instrumental in the implementation, maintenance and improvement of information
technology systems, procedures and activities of the office in accordance with the ICT work
plan. The role requires effective planning and organisational skills along with solid technical
experience to support the office’s ICT needs.

Key result areas for this post include
- Promoting the productivity and effectiveness of the office ensuring the appropriateness
of local computing and telecommunications facilities to meet programme requirements
- Providing accountability for ICT resources through accurate analysis and evaluation of
office’s ICT needs, sound procurement, maintaining software/hardware standards and
accurate recording of inventory and effective reporting of ICT inventory
- Advising on correct interpretation and application of ICT policies and guidelines in
support of the office’s information communication technology needs.

Qualifications and competencies
- Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other relevant
disciplines
- At least five years solid hands-on of relevant working experience is required, including
development and implementation of ICT strategies, management and supervision of ICT
services and teams, hardware and software platforms, telecommunications facilities,
knowledge of Windows-based packages/applications, experience in web design and
development of web-based office applications
- LAN/WAN and Telecommunications experience essential
- Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNE) and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
(MCSE).

Vacancy: Driver

Major tasks to be accomplished
The successful candidate will be reporting to the WASH Specialist and Administrative
Assistant (Transport), will provide support services to the Office. This includes:
- Driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and
collection of mail, documents and other items
- Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs
formalities
- Carrying out day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water, battery,
brakes, tyres and ensures that the fuel tanks are filled
- Arranging for repairs and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean
- Recording and logging trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing,
vehicle details as per set guidelines
- Provide administrative support including filing, photocopying, messengerial,
arrangements for meetings
- Ensuring that based on organisational rules and regulations, the appropriate steps
required are taken in case of involvement in an accident

Qualifications and competencies
- Completion of Secondary education; Clean Class 2 driver’s licence; knowledge of
driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair
- A Valid Defensive Driving Certificate is required
- First Aid Certificate is an added advantage
- At least 5 years’ work experience as a driver and a safe driving record
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment
- Background/familiarity with emergency an added advantage

Vacancy: Logistics Officer

A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Supply and Logistics Unit.
Under the direct supervision of the Supply and Logistics Specialist, the incumbent will
assist in the logistics execution and coordination, procurement, distribution and monitoring
of UNICEF’s supplies, in support of the Country Programme.

Key result areas for this post include
- Monitors and tracks all offshore supplies procurement and ensure their smooth and
timely arrival and clearance into the country, updating reports with regular reviews
- Prepares and submits all clearance documents and act as focal point for Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and ZIMRA; follow up on preliminary supply clearance documentations to
facilitate timely customs clearance of supplies and equipment, in keeping with established
protocol
- Support coordination and ensures that all relevant documentation/information/
instruction are shared with the Distribution Center (Warehouse) for smooth receipt and
distribution of supplies at warehouse level
- Raises and monitors Logistics related Contracts/SSAs and ensure payment thresholds
and timeframes are adhered to
- Receives and processes invoices for logistics related services. Check invoices for
completeness and validity, compile tabulation and raise payment requests
- Maintain spreadsheets that monitor the utilisation of funds against contracts raised for
logistics related services and ensure payments are processed for services rendered
- Monitor contract performance of logistics service providers against defined KPIs
- Undertakes field visits to project sites to monitor and evaluate effectiveness and
appropriateness of supply inputs. Proposes corrective actions to improve logistical
procedures

Minimum qualifications and experience required
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree supplemented by courses in logistics and supply chain
management are highly desirable
- Knowledge of Materials management – storage, inventory control, and materials
handling is also required
- At least six years of professional work experience in logistics management at a national
level, with an NGO or another UN agency is desirable
- Ability to manage day to day interactions with contracted external service providers
and analyse their performance
- Ability to analyse data, prepare reports and utilization of MS Word and MS Excel
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious
and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization

Vacancy: WASH Specialist


A challenging and exciting opportunity based in Bulawayo has arisen within the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Programme for an individual who is accountable for formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of the Rural WASH Programme to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project management, delivery and accomplishment of project goals and objectives.

Key result areas for this post include
- Enhance effective programme, sectoral or inter-sectoral, planning, development and management by leading, guiding, coordinating and supporting the timely completion of the Situational Analysis and its periodic update
- Promote knowledge management by exchange of knowledge, information, situation analysis, experience or lessons learned; promote knowledge sharing and technical input or recommendations on major programme directions and on introduction of new initiatives in the country
- Promote the quality of rights-based WASH programme and programmes through participation in the formulation of programme/project goals, strategies and approaches. Bring coherence, synergy and added value to programme management processes using a results-based management approach to planning and design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- Ensure programme efficiency and delivery through a rigorous and transparent approach to evaluation. Participation in major evaluation exercises, programme reviews and annual sector review meetings with government counterparts. Ensure the preparation of annual WASH sector status reports
- Certifies disbursements of funds, monitors and submits financial status reports to management in compliance with the regulations and guidelines
- Ensure adequate attention is given to Disaster Risk Management, Including emergency preparedness
- Collaborate with Communication and Programme Communication groups to ensure development of effective communication materials and strategies to support advocacy and social mobilization efforts
- Collaborate with the Operations and Supply Sections and Government authorities to establish and maintain sound internal controls supportive of WASH programme and to coordinate financial and supply management requirements as well as to ensure accountability
- Advocate for due attention and support to be given to environmental and sustainable development issues (pertaining to WASH) in all sectors and line Ministries
- Interact with Government and other partners, NGOs, UN and bilateral agencies in the different stages of WASH Programme/project implementation to follow up on agreements and recommendations
- Provide technical support and guidance on appropriate technical, financial and institutional capacity building measures to achieve WASH programme goals, including humanitarian response

Qualifications and Competencies
- Initiative, passion and commitment to UNICEF’s mission and professional values
- Advanced university degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Sanitation Engineering, or a field relevant to international WASH related development assistance
- Additional training in Health Education or Communication for Development (Programme Communication), an asset
- Five years of relevant professional work experience. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization
- Field work experience and background/familiarity with Development and Emergency essential
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
