Vacancy: Deputy Head Master


Job Summary
Peterhouse is a group of three independent boarding schools magnificently located
on two highly attractive sites near Marondera, 80 kilometres east of Harare. The
three schools consist of over l, 1 00 pupils from all sections of Zimbabwe society
(Peterhouse Boys 500 full boarders aged 12 _ 18; Peterhouse Girls 440 full boarders

Description

Qualifications

Candidates must be holders of a degree in Pollution Science or Environmental Health and Safety or related field with a 2.1 grade or better. Possession of SHATCOR I or II or OSHEMAC I and II will be added advantages.

4. FACULTY OF COMMERCE


4.1 Technician (1 Post)


Qualifications

Applicants should have a minimum of 5 '0' levels including English Language, Mathematics and ~:::> Science plus a Diploma in Computer Studies or Electronic Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

Superintending over Faculty equipments installations and other technical services, assisting in Faculty presentations! workshops! seminars, maintaining inventories of the distribution and movement of equipment in the department, advising on selection of procurement of teaching and learning equipment, ensuring that equipment is maintained and kept in sound working conditions at all times, receiving, recording and documenting instructions on all technical service required for teaching, publication and research by the members and assisting in technical work for all departments in the Faculty.


4.2 Secretary (1 Post)


Qualifications

Applicants should have a minimum of 5 "0" levels including English Language, 50 words per minute typing, Diploma in Office Management or Secretarial Studies or equivalent from recognized institutions, 80 words per minute Shorthand/ Dictaphone equivalent, at least 1 year post qualification working experience. A clean class four Driver's Licence is an added advantage.


4.3 Department of Financial Intelligence & Security Studies/Police and Security Studies


4.3.1 Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor (1 Post)


Qualifications

Candidates must be holders of a Masters degree in Criminal Law, Criminology or and other relevant post graduate study related to these specialized areas. Candidates must have at least three years post qualification teaching experience at a tertiary institution or five years professional practicing experience in the fields of Law or CRIMINALjustice System. APhD will be an added advantage.
Candidates must be able to teach courses which include: Criminal law, Law of Evidence and Criminology.



4.3.2 Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor• (French Language) 1 Post


Qualifications

Candidates must be holders of a Masters Degree in French Language or any other relevant post graduate study related to this specialized area. Candidates should also possess speaking, reading and writing competences in the French Language and must have at least three years teaching experience at a tertiary institution or five years practical everyday use of the French language through speaking, listening, reading and writing in economical, social, cultural spheres. A PhD will be an added advantage.

4.3.3 Teaching Assistants - Financial Intelligence (2 Posts)


Qualifications

Candidates must be holders of a first degree in Financial Intelligence or Investigative Psychology with at least a 2.1 class. Applicants will be expected to register for a Masters Degree study in related areas of specialization.
The eligible candidates should be able to:
Assist with tutorials in a cross section of courses in the Financial Intelligence courses, playa role in supervising continuous learning and assessment, partake in outreach programmes and supervision of students on field trips.


4.2.4 Teaching Assistants  - Police and Security Studies (1 Post)


Qualifications

Candidates must be holders of a Law or Police Studies related Degree with at least a 2.1 class. Applicants will be expected to register for a Masters Degree study in related areas of specialization.
The eligible candidate should be able to:

4.3 Department of Accountancy


4.3.1 Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor - (3 Posts)


Qualifications

Candidates must be holders of a first degree in Accountancy and a Masters' Degree in Accountancy. Possession of a professional qualification in Accountancy such as CIS, ACCA, CIMA and ICAZ is an added advantage. The successful candidate should be able to teach at least two of the following courses: Public Sector Accounting, Taxation, Tax Planning, Cost and Management Accounting, Advanced Auditing, Financial management and Financial Accounting 3.


5. RESEARCH AND POST GRADUATE CENTRE


5.1 Chief Research Officer (1 Post)


Qualifications

Applicants must hold a minimum of MSc or MA. A PhD/ DPhii will be an added advantage. The successful candidate must be capable of implementing the vision and mission of the Research and Postgraduate Centre, must be a notable Scholar with a good track record in research activities, and must be a dynamic and trans-disciplinary individual. He/She must have excellent management, verbal and written communication skills and have credibility among his/her peers.


The Chief Research Officer will be responsible for:

Pre-award grant administration which includes assisting investigators with research grant proposal development, planning and editing grant applications, reviewing proposal for scientific merit and institutional risk, and identifying funding for proposed research, post award research grant administration, which includes monitoring expenditure and compliance with institutional and sponsor financial policies, maintaining updated proposals database, identifying and establishing links with external research institutions, industry, government institutions and the community for collaborative engagement, assisting in harnessing' of research innovation and creativity and facilitating BUSE participation in internal and external exhibitions, assisting in the commercialization of research outputs including patenting, trademarks and copyrights of outputs developed by staff and students and any other duties designated by the Director.



5.2 Administrative Assistant (1 Post)


Applicants must have a minimum of a first degree from a recognized institution, one year Post qualification experience, an administrative qualification and working knowledge of University structures. Computer literacy is a must especially working with databases.
The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for:
Providing administrative, fiscal and personal support for the Director to ensure completion of tasks, compiling, categorizing, calculating, auditing, verifying, or processing information or data on research activities to make summaries for decision making, planning and co-ordinating seminar activities, reading and responding to correspondences, interpreting administrative and operational procedures for researchers, developing documents for presentation or meetings, maintaining an updated database system, monitoring and recording expenditure by individual researchers and providing periodic updates to the Director, planning and scheduling Research and Post Graduate Centre meetings, making travel arrangements for the Director and managing the Calendar and any other duties designated by the Director.


6. LIBRARY DEPARTMENT


6.1 Sub Librarian (1 Post)


Qualifications:

Applicants must be in possession of a Master's Degree in Library Science plus three years of progressively responsible library administration experience in the technical srvices department of an academic library.
Knowledge of current and emerging cataloguing standards, experience in cataloguing various formats of information and the ability to investigate, integrate and manage a variety of library technologies are the required attributes for this position.


7. DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS


7.1 Cooks (4 Posts)


Qualifications:

The applicants must have a minimum of 5 "0" Levels including English language. A professional Certificate/Diploma in Hotel and Catering Studies or its equivalent (HEXCO certified).
Duties:
An all-rounder cook who can skillfully and economically prepare and timely present quality food, protect food and equipment from abuse and perform all duties in line with catering services as assigned by management.


8. REGISTRY DEPARTMENT


8.1 Services Manager (1 Post)


Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Masters in an administrative field or equivalent plus a minimum of five years post qualification administrative experience in a Higher Education environment. The ideal candidate should be an aesthetic person, highly creative, and be prepared to occasionally operate beyond the normal office hours and be able to work with minimum supervision. A Driver's Licence is a must.

Duties:

Be responsible for the general aesthetic of the University, supervision of services staff and ensuring that highest levels of cleanliness are maintained at all University campuses, co-ordinating the maintenance of University buildings, needs identification of communal furniture, equipment and its use, co-ordinating the use and hiring of University facilities, management of bills for all University properties, management of the University Reprographic Unit, servicing of University Committees and any other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor through the Registrar.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will report to the Vice Chancellor and will be responsible for:

  • Managing an internal audit function.
  • The development of quarterly and annual internal audit plans, programme design and reports
  • Planning and preparing periodic audit programmes in accordance with prescribed audit! accounting standards.

1.1     Job Summary
Given that Midlands State University is a young institution which is still growing, the Pro Vice Chancellor (Business Development and Administration) is expected to assist the Vice Chancellor in the execution of the University's construction operations as well as in the management of administrative, financial and human resource support services with the view to ensuring the attainment of maximum efficiency, enhanced cost effectiveness and high quality service delivery to the University community and the public at large. C. TECHNICAL POSTS

16. MAINTENANCE OFFICER (1 POSTS)
16.1 Physical Planning, Works and Estates

Applicants must be holders of a minimum qualification of a Degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a maintenance environment, or related field. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of, and ability to use hand and welding tools. Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, carpentry, transport and ground systems is essential. The successful candidate will
be expected to possess exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills to enable him/her to be able to function effectively and efficiently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with an aptitude for computer systems and technologies will be desirable. In addition, applicants are required to have knowledge of ISO 14001 Environment Management Systems.  A driver’s licence is a must.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of building maintenance, repairs and improvements. He/she will be expected to delegate maintenance tasks to maintenance and warehouse staff, ensuring that such tasks are performed timeously in a pro-active, safe and environmentally conscious manner. Furthermore, the incumbent will work closely with university personnel in organizing and maintaining preventative maintenance requirements; scheduling and material purchases. Other duties in the overall supervision of maintenance production and plant assets will include assessing maintenance staff workloads and making appropriate recommendations; actively participating in planning, organizing and executing tasks and projects; training staff on processes, procedures and technical tasks.

17. CHIEF TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
17.1 Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants should have a Masters Degree in Manufacturing/Production/Mechanical Engineering with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.  At least 5 years of post-bachelor’s industrial experience is required, two of which must be in a supervisory role.  The successful applicant will be expected to supervise staff in the workshop in addition to the technician’s duties.

18. CHIEF TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
18.1 Department of Computer Science-Faculty of Applied Sciences

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in either Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Software Engineering or any equivalent Information Technology Degree from a recognized University or Institution, and at least 5(five) years post-qualification experience. A Postgraduate Degree in the relevant field would be a definite advantage.  Candidates must have experience in computer software,
networking and hardware.  The duties of the incumbent will include management of computer laboratories and laboratory equipment, supervision of junior staff, liaison with equipment suppliers and provision of user support within the department.

Applicants must posses a minimum qualification of a Higher National Diploma, or a Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or Electronics. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant post-qualification experience. For candidates to be appointed to the senior Technician Grade, they should have 3 years post-qualification experience, in addition to the outlined Degree qualification.

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Chairman of the Department and will be expected to run and maintain the Departmental Computer laboratory. He/she should have a thorough working knowledge of modems, routers and switches. The duties will include trouble shooting, cabling (CAT5), configuration, repair and maintenance of all departmental computer related hardware or software problems, in addition to overall technical supervision of laboratory sessions. Enforcement of security and safety measures in the computer laboratory, assisting both undergraduate and post-graduate students in carrying out their research, user training and support, and checking consumable stocks and advising on re-ordering levels will be some of the duties, as well as doing any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or
senior technical staff.

21. TECHNICIAN/SENIOR TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
21.1 Department of Textile Technology-Faculty of Industrial Technology

Applicants must be holders of either a Higher National Diploma or equivalent, or a Degree in Textile Technology/Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering with experience in maintenance, repair and setting of Textile manufacturing equipment.  Experience in Textile laboratory/workshop administration, repair and calibration of laboratory equipment will be an added advantage.  For a candidate to be appointed to the senior Technician’s Grade, one has to have 3 years post qualification experience, as well as the ability to supervise and train junior staff.

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and service departmental equipment for thermal, fluid and compressed air systems for teaching and research activities. He/she will also be required to actively participate in the design and development of experimental test rigs, and to assist students in
carrying out experiments and projects. In addition the incumbent will be expected to assist academic staff with their research projects. He/she must demonstrate commitment to self-advancement within the academic and research environment of the University.

23. TECHNICIAN (2 POSTS)
23.1 Department of Journalism and Media Studies-Faculty of Communication and Information Science

POST A
Applicants must have at least a Higher National Diploma in Computing or its equivalent.  Applicants who have experience in the use of Journalism related software such as Quark X-press, Adobe Audition, Final Cut and others will have an added advantage.

POST B
Applicants must have at least a Higher National Diploma in Computing or its equivalent and at least one year post-qualification experience.  Applicants with working experience in a broadcast environment as a producer or above will have an added advantage.  Successful applicants will be expected to assist students with their film and broadcast projects.

24. SOFTWARE SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
24.1 Information and Communication Technology Services

Applicants must possess a Higher National Diploma and 3 years post-qualification experience, or a Degree in Information/Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent and 1 year post-qualification experience. Software maintenance experience as well as possession of intimate knowledge of Microsoft Office Software applications, Microsoft Access programming, Apache and Microsoft Windows operating systems is required. Knowledge of Auto card, MySql, WinQS and Linux will be an added advantage. The incumbent will report to the Director of Information and Communication Technology Services and will be responsible for assisting in the Information and Communication Technology Services Department Help desk, including the hardware and software technical support of computers running on the University Local Area Network.
